Who is behind this

Space Discovery is a personal astronomy outreach project by Saul Crivosei. There is no company behind it, no service to sign up for and nothing to buy.

For anything to do with your data, write to the address at the bottom of this page.

What we don't do

We start here because it is, by some distance, the longest part.

• There is no sign-up and there are no user accounts.
• We don't ask for your name, email, phone number or payment details.
• There are no contact or subscription forms.
• We use no analytics, no tracking pixels and no advertising.
• We don't build profiles or make automated decisions about you.
• We don't sell or hand over information to anyone.

What does happen

Three things, and all three follow from the site being on the internet at all.

• Server logs. Vercel, our hosting provider, automatically records every request: IP address, browser type, page requested and date. It keeps the site running and helps detect abuse. Legal basis: legitimate interest. We don't cross-reference those logs with anything, and we don't use them to identify you.
• Your questions to Cosmo. The text you write is sent to our server and, from there, to the AI model that writes the answer. It isn't stored in any database and isn't linked to you. Even so, the usual advice holds: don't type personal data, yours or anyone else's, into a chat. Legal basis: it is the service you asked for when you pressed “Ask”.
• Your cookie preference. It stays in your browser's local storage and never reaches our server. The cookie policy covers the detail.

Who it is shared with

Only the providers needed for the site and the guide to work. They act on our behalf and under their own data protection commitments.

• Vercel — hosting, and passing questions on to the AI model.
• Anthropic — the model that generates Cosmo's answers.

Outside the European Economic Area

These providers may process information on servers located outside the EEA, principally in the United States, relying on the safeguards set out in their own data processing agreements.

If that concerns you, keep the actual scope in mind: the only thing that leaves your browser by your own choice is the text you write to Cosmo.

How long it is kept

• Server logs: whatever retention period the hosting provider applies. We don't download or archive them.
• Questions to Cosmo: not kept. The answer is generated and sent; no copy remains on our side.
• Cookie preference: in your browser, until you change it or clear the site's data.

Your rights

You can request access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection in relation to your personal data, and withdraw your consent whenever you like.

With one honest caveat: since we store nothing that identifies you, in practice we cannot locate “your” data to show you or delete it, simply because we don't hold it. If you believe we are falling short, you can complain to the data protection authority in your country.

Children

The site is meant for all ages, and much of its content is for people just getting started in astronomy. Since we collect no personal data, there is nothing that requires a parent or guardian's permission. If a child writes to Cosmo, the same advice applies as to anyone else: no personal data in the chat.

If this changes

If it changes, this page changes, and the date at the top will say so. If the change affects something that needs your consent, we will ask you again.
